McLaren Unveils the MCL40, the 2026 Formula 1 Car

At the dawn of a new era in Formula 1, McLaren has unveiled the livery of its MCL40 car for the 2026 season. An event eagerly anticipated by fans, as the reigning champion team is the last to present its machine before the season opener. With a striking color dominance that does not go unnoticed, the Woking team is ready to face the challenges of a new technical regulation.

A Dazzling Orange Design

The presentation of the MCL40 took place in the idyllic setting of the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. McLaren, mostly owned by Mumtalakat, the sovereign wealth fund of the country, chose an enchanting decor to highlight its new jewel. The car’s livery, while similar to last year’s, features an even more pronounced papaya orange, particularly at the nose. While the test in Barcelona revealed an entirely black livery, the official 2026 model returns to its roots with an almost entirely orange look, accented with black touches on the top of the sidepods, part of the flanks, and the front wing.

A Landmark 2025 Season

The 2025 season was a true culmination for McLaren, marked by the conquest of its first Constructors’ title since 1998. Lando Norris, the team’s emblematic driver, managed to shine by winning the world championship against Max Verstappen and his teammate Oscar Piastri. This is a historic moment for McLaren, which sees Norris as its most loyal representative, now holding the record for the most starts under the papaya colors. The last driver championship dated back to the Lewis Hamilton era in 2007, and this new achievement did not go unnoticed.

A Team Under Pressure

As the new technical regulation could shuffle the cards, McLaren will be in the spotlight. The double reigning world champion team has demonstrated an impressive ability to progress, developing its car with formidable efficiency. However, the equity policy established since 2024, which aims to treat Norris and Piastri equally, has sparked controversy, particularly during Verstappen’s impressive comeback at the end of the season. The famous “papaya rules,” which have guided the team so far, will be applied again in 2026, but with increased attention to potential mistakes related to the pressure of a title.

Crucial Testing

Before hitting the asphalt of the first Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8, McLaren is preparing intensively. The team will be on track during the Bahrain winter tests, scheduled from February 11 to 13 and February 18 to 20, as well as for a promotional running day on Wednesday, February 10. These sessions will be crucial to fine-tune the settings of the MCL40 and ensure that the team is ready to defend its title against increasingly sharp competitors.

A Promising Future

With an impressive track record and rising performances, McLaren approaches this season with confidence. The challenge is immense, but the team knows it can rely on a duo of talented drivers and a seasoned technical team. The MCL40 is not just a car; it is a symbol of a renaissance for McLaren, which aspires to remain at the top of motorsport. The anticipation surrounding this new single-seater is palpable, and it remains to be seen whether the team’s ambitions will materialize on the track.
