Exploring “Le corps vitré”
“Le corps vitré” is an innovative project led by Lara Tabet, who combines her expertise in biology with artistic vision. The project examines the intricate relationships between living organisms, imagery, and ecological systems through a process called bacteriography. Tabet employs microbiological samples from aquatic environments to create images that arise from interactions between micro-organisms and light-sensitive materials.
This work bridges scientific inquiry and artistic expression, transforming biological imprints into contemporary stained-glass windows. It seeks to reveal often hidden ecosystems, raising awareness of pressing environmental issues.
Statements from the Winners
Upon their selection, Tabet and Chemali expressed their enthusiasm: “This appointment acknowledges our shared journey from Beirut to southern France. We are excited to develop a project that interrogates bodily permeability through a feminist lens, celebrating the hybrid nature of photography since its inception. The BMW ART MAKERS programme provides an ideal context for our artistic exploration that resonates with current ecological challenges.”
Programme Support and Applications
The BMW ART MAKERS programme underscores the company’s commitment to fostering innovation and cultural expression. Maryse Bataillard stated, “This award not only supports the artists but also embodies our dedication to nurturing diverse talent and encouraging dialogue between art, science, and society.”
