Ford, the Blue Oval, is preparing to revive one of its icons: the Fiesta. By partnering with Renault, the American manufacturer plans to produce compact electric cars on the AmpR Small platform, with a launch expected in 2028. A revival that could attract all those who mourned the departure of the Fiesta from the market!
A strategic alliance for the future
Ford recently announced its collaboration with Renault, a partnership that promises to give a boost to their electric vehicle lineup. Thanks to this alliance, the two automotive giants will pool their resources to develop compact models, particularly on the AmpR Small platform. This strategic choice is anything but trivial, especially at a time when electrification is becoming a necessity to stay competitive. The first model is expected to debut in 2028.
But this cooperation is not limited to electric cars. It could also extend to other types of vehicles, such as vans or other commercial transport means. For now, let’s focus on cars, as this is where the heart of the debate beats strongest.
The electric platform: a familiar ground
The AmpR Small is already well-known, having been used by Renault for its iconic models like the Renault 5 and the Renault 4. By integrating this technology, Ford can focus on tuning driving dynamics to offer a unique experience in its future models, much like a chef adjusting each spice to achieve the perfect dish.

It is therefore at the ElectriCity plant in Ampere, located in Douai, that these models will come to life. Here, Ford will have free rein to put its own spin on these vehicles while benefiting from Renault’s expertise in the electric field. A sort of marriage between German rigor and French creativity.
Jim Farley, Ford’s CEO, stated: “We are committed to Europe and we believe that Renault has demonstrated its capability in terms of scale and costs.” His counterpart at Renault, Francois Provost, added: “We are both confident that by producing cars on a common basis, we will be able to differentiate our brands.”
The long-awaited return of the Fiesta
One question inevitably arises: which Ford models will emerge from this collaboration? Although details are still unclear, it is reasonable to assume that an SUV and a city car will come to fruition. Let’s start with the city car, as rumors are swirling about a possible return of the Fiesta. Having disappeared from the market in 2023, it could be reborn in an entirely electric form, similar to what Renault has done with its famous R5. Imagine a new Fiesta with a retro look inspired by the most iconic models. A true return to the future!

The electric Ford Puma
As for the SUV, it could replace the current electric Puma, which is already well-established in the market. This model could benefit from Ford’s technological advancements while retaining the DNA that made its predecessor successful. Like a phoenix rising from its ashes, the brand is determined to reinvent itself.
While we await more information on these future electric models, let’s remember that Ford also has a partnership with Volkswagen to use their MEB platform, which underpins the new Ford Explorer and Ford Capri. Electrification is accelerating at Ford, and this could very well be the beginning of a new era.
