Four years after its launch, Gran Turismo 7 continues to fascinate, boasting a steadily growing player base. With regular updates and a vibrant community, the title seems far from reaching the finish line, like a Ferrari racing on a track: full of promise and power.
A phenomenon that shows no signs of slowing down
Since its release on March 4, 2022, Gran Turismo 7 has experienced resounding success with over 2 million monthly active players. According to Kazunori Yamauchi, the leading producer of the series at Polyphony Digital, this number is constantly increasing. During a recent roundtable in Fukuoka, Japan, he revealed that the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. “We are probably experiencing the best period ever for a Gran Turismo title,” he proudly stated.
This momentum is supported by several key factors. Unlike many modern games, GT7 is not included in the PlayStation Plus subscription and has never been ported to PC. Additionally, it remains at its initial price (aside from temporary promotions). This economic model, combined with monthly free updates that include new cars and major packs like Spec II and III, transforms the game into a living platform rather than a static product.

A franchise that makes history
Gran Turismo, as a whole, reaches an emblematic milestone: 100 million copies sold worldwide since its inception. This milestone was achieved on June 25, 2025, and the latest installment contributes significantly with over 14 million units sold by January 2025. The World Series, inherited from Gran Turismo Sport, now attracts up to eight million viewers per event, proving that competition is at the heart of the series’ DNA.
However, this longevity raises questions about the future. A timeline for Gran Turismo 8 is already on everyone’s lips. Rumors suggest a launch in 2026 or even 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the series and the potential arrival of a new generation of PlayStation consoles.
New features delighting players
Until then, Polyphony Digital is not resting. The recent Spec III update introduced a model as bold as it is unexpected: the Renault Espace F1. This addition, racing towards enriching updates, once again demonstrates the limitless creativity of the developers.

A TCR star to enhance the experience
In January 2026, players will also welcome the Hyundai Elantra N TCR, a beast entering the Gr.4 class. This model adds to the already well-stocked collection of Hyundai in the game and proves that the brand is not hesitant to invest in fruitful collaborations with Polyphony. Powered by a 2.0 turbo engine and a six-speed sequential gearbox, the Elantra N TCR could very well make sparks fly on the virtual track.
Joon Park, vice president of Hyundai N, has promised more surprises for 2026. Who knows, perhaps we will discover unique road models or revolutionary concepts inspired by racing?
Gifts and connections: the celebration continues
To crown this positive momentum, GT7 is launching a festive campaign until December 26, 2025. Accessible via the world map on PS4 or PS5, this operation allows players to receive a gift every day simply by logging in. No need for online challenges; just a connection on several different days to unlock the rewards.
