Introduction to the Squared Charger
ElectricFish has unveiled an innovative solution to the charging conundrum plaguing electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. Dubbed the Squared, this EV charger integrates a battery, significantly reducing installation costs and expediting deployment.

Key Features of the Squared Charger

- Designed to facilitate faster installations at over 150,000 gas stations nationwide.
- Features a 400 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and two 400 kW charging ports.
- Can add up to 180 miles of range in as little as eight minutes, depending on the vehicle.
The Problem with Current Charging Infrastructure
Despite nearly 17,000 DC fast chargers across the country, significant gaps remain in regions like Kansas, Nebraska, and the Dakotas. States such as Montana and Wyoming also lack adequate charging infrastructure outside urban centers.

ElectricFish’s Approach to Installation
Traditional fast charger installations can be a logistical nightmare, often costing upwards of $150,000 per port and taking 12 to 18 months to complete. The Squared charger aims to circumvent these challenges by utilizing its integrated battery, which allows for a more straightforward installation process.

Operational Efficiency of the Squared Charger
The integrated battery facilitates vehicle recharging while drawing significantly less power from the grid—between 30 kW and 100 kW—compared to conventional chargers. This efficiency enables deployment in just 4 to 6 weeks.

Revenue Sharing Model
ElectricFish is adopting a revenue-sharing model to keep costs down. Gas station owners will provide space and a basic electrical connection, while ElectricFish manages hardware and installation. Both parties will then share the revenue generated from charging sessions, minimizing upfront investment barriers for gas stations.

Support and Testing
The startup has garnered attention and backing from Hyundai’s ZER01NE Ventures. A pilot charger was installed at Hyundai’s California Proving Ground, where it successfully delivered peak charging power throughout a demanding summer program.

Conclusion
The Squared charger by ElectricFish represents a significant step toward enhancing EV infrastructure across the United States. By simplifying installation and reducing costs, it could pave the way for broader adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.
