In a corner of the world where one would expect to see brand new SUVs and futuristic sedans, a group of enthusiasts continues to keep the gems of yesteryear alive. From caravans to the Chrysler New Yorker, let’s dive together into this nostalgic journey through the Israeli roads.

An autumn adventure among classics

Over the past two months, I had the pleasure of encountering a diverse collection of vehicles with outdated charm in Israel. Don’t get me wrong: this isn’t just a simple car ride. It’s more like a treasure hunt, a bit like searching for the Holy Grail in a well-organized supermarket. Recent births in my family have somewhat slowed my quest, but November has been generous with surprises.

An eclectic mix of models

The first capture deserves a nod: a vintage-looking caravan from the 1960s, rare in the country. Upon seeing this beauty, I felt as if I could hear a nostalgic melody, much like a Cold Chisel album playing on repeat. Attached to it was a Land Rover Discovery that, much like your uncle who refuses to admit he’s aging, is still around despite the years.

Next, I spotted a CJ-6, a classic that has lost some of its luster over time. This model, which once seemed uninteresting, has become rare. It must be said that in Israel, only true enthusiasts keep these aging JEEPs, while modern competition offers more appealing alternatives.

Classics that stand the test of time

The highlight? A Ford Anglia, this British marvel captured in the same spot as during a previous escapade. As if these cars had their own secret convention! The small country that is Israel is teeming with a community of classic cars, and it’s no surprise to see this model at various gatherings.

And what about the Toyota RAV4? This first generation appeared over twenty years ago. While it managed to charm internationally, it didn’t really find its audience in Israel due to a price deemed exorbitant at the time. What’s fascinating is that despite everything, there are still a few models roaming the roads, like this post-facelift RAV4 seen in the video below:

The essence of luxury and robustness

Continuing my journey, I came across a stunning 1987 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126. A true monument of German automotive engineering! In my eyes, this car embodies excellence with its elegant lines and rock-solid robustness. In fact, I would even say that the best triad of Mercedes-Benz consists of the W123, W124, and this W126.

Then came the Subaru Leone Pick-up (DL in Israel), which has become a local icon. These vehicles are so appreciated that they continue to serve as true workhorses in the country. It’s almost amusing to see how some models have managed to establish themselves in the Israeli automotive landscape.

Unexpected discoveries

The second half of October brought its share of unexpected discoveries. I came across a 1967 Chrysler New Yorker hardtop that literally stood out against the contemporary backdrop. Far from being a common car at the time of its launch, its recent arrival in Israel is a testament to a passion for classics that hasn’t aged a bit.

And to wrap up this chapter beautifully, how could I forget the BMW E23? A sedan that is becoming rare but has managed to retain all its prestige over the years. It feels like a rock concert where every note is played with care by talented musicians.

A tribute to forgotten models

November was slow enough to include all my captures in a single video:

Among the gems of the month, the Alfa Giulietta Spider stands out. Its style evokes a bygone era where elegance reigned supreme. Next, a VW Golf Mk2 — a beloved model but now hard to find in decent condition — reminded me of how these cars marked their time.

The legacy of small city cars

A Peugeot 306 also caught my attention. This well-known model from the 90s represents a turning point for the French brand. I nostalgically remember my old 306, which was a true pleasure to drive! This particular model, well-preserved, honors the quality of yesteryear.

Next to it stood another Subaru Pick-up, this time more used for leisure than for work. All of this shows how these models have become beloved and appreciated classics.

In summary, these drives in Israel reveal a deep love for classic cars. Whether it’s a vintage caravan or a flashy Chrysler from the 60s, each vehicle tells a story and reflects a bygone era.
