Ferrari has finally lifted the veil on its new car, the SF-26, during the F1 tests in Barcelona. It was the perfect opportunity for Charles Leclerc to get his foot in the stirrup, even though the capricious weather put a damper on this first day. A head-to-head with Max Verstappen and wet conditions do not dampen the enthusiasm of the Monegasque who, despite everything, manages to make progress.
A Rainy Start at Montmeló
This Tuesday, Scuderia Ferrari made its entrance on the Barcelona circuit, marking the kickoff of the 2026 Formula 1 tests. However, the term “collective” seems a bit exaggerated on this rainy day, as only Red Bull shared the track with the Scuderia. Despite this situation, Charles Leclerc remained focused on his program, admitting that he managed to make the best of the delicate conditions.
Laps and Checks
During the first four hours of running on the second day of private testing, Leclerc found himself in a duel with Max Verstappen. After about an hour and a half of running on a dry track, interrupted by a brief red flag caused by the Dutchman, the rain finally fell on Montmeló. But Ferrari did not falter in the face of these changing conditions.
Leclerc continued to complete stints, taking advantage of a lull to carry out the planned checks. Admittedly, he could not switch to slicks before the break, but the control mission was successfully accomplished.
The Driver’s Voice: A Look Back at the SF-26
“For now, it’s mainly about trying to understand if everything is working correctly, which has been the case,” Leclerc stated. His words resonate like a promise for the upcoming season. “The conditions are not ideal, but we have still followed our program. We are not focusing on performance for now.”
The Monegasque clarified that he was concentrating on the new systems of the car, ensuring that they were all functioning correctly. “It’s positive. We will then gradually roll out our program.”
A Sense of Anticipation
When asked about his impressions behind the wheel of the new generation F1 cars, Leclerc remains cautious: “It’s still very, very early to talk about it, as we haven’t pushed the car to the limit yet. Today was mainly about checking the system on the track.” This clearly shows that every lap counts in this game of patience and analysis.
With 64 laps completed, he began the first preliminary check of the car without any issues. “We will go through our checklist to focus on performance a bit later.”
“I Hope This Year Will Be the One”

Leclerc expresses a palpable impatience to get to grips with the competition and assess where Ferrari stands in the current hierarchy. “I’m very eager to see what the others have in store. When we start pushing a bit more, I want to know where we are compared to them.”
The driver is optimistic about this new season: “This year is a great opportunity for all teams to do something different. I hope we will be the team that manages to make the difference.”
He concludes with conviction: “Whatever our starting point, we will push to the maximum to try to bring Ferrari back to the top. It’s been several years, so I hope this year will be the one.”
A Promising Succession
After his morning run, Leclerc handed over his seat to Lewis Hamilton for the afternoon session, a symbolic moment that underscores the fierce competition that will reign this season. The tests continue, and with each lap, the teams refine their setups, but for Ferrari, the time is to build solid foundations for the future.
The essential thing is that Ferrari does not get discouraged by the weather’s whims. Every test is a chance to learn and progress. In the meantime, the world of Formula 1 is closely watching these first steps of the SF-26, hoping that this year will be the one of renewal for the Scuderia.
