Johann Zarco is about to write a new chapter in his story at Suzuka, alongside Jonathan Rea. The Frenchman, who has already shone in the past, seems determined to continue his momentum. Get ready to witness an epic battle on one of the most legendary circuits in the world of motorcycle racing.
An Impressive Track Record
Since joining Honda in MotoGP with the LCR team, Johann Zarco has demonstrated undeniable talent, particularly during the 8 Hours of Suzuka, a race of unparalleled prestige. In just two participations, in 2024 and 2025, he achieved the feat of standing on the top step of the podium each time, much like a chef perfecting his recipe until he obtains the perfect dish.
To achieve this success, Zarco had teammate Takumi Takahashi, a true virtuoso on the track and record holder for wins in this event. Their duo was strengthened in 2024 by Teppei Nagoe, but the following year, it was just the two of them facing the competition, due to an injury for Iker Lecuona and administrative issues for Xavi Vierge, who was initially supposed to replace him.
A Strong Comeback for 2026
After conquering Suzuka twice, it is almost certain that Johann Zarco is preparing for a third consecutive participation. Although Honda has not yet announced its plans for 2026, the Frenchman does not hesitate to hint at his presence on the starting grid, likely with a renewed crew. For now, he hopes to reunite with Takahashi by his side to aim for an eighth victory in this legendary race.
However, the big news could be the arrival of Jonathan Rea in the cockpit. The former king of WorldSBK, who has become a test rider for Honda this year, could very well make his return to the Japanese circuit. As reported by Motorsport.com, his commitment to the race seems increasingly likely.
A Promising Chemistry
“In my opinion, it will be Takahashi and Rea, because Rea is becoming a test rider in Superbike,” Zarco told the YouTube channel Fastlane TV. He expresses his enthusiasm: “And already, it’s going to be two top riders. I’m adding myself to enjoy.” This is a beautiful statement that highlights the friendly and competitive atmosphere prevailing in the paddock.

Johann Zarco has won twice in two participations at the 8 Hours of Suzuka.
Jonathan Rea: A Formidable Opponent
Like Zarco, Jonathan Rea has also excelled at the 8 Hours of Suzuka, winning the event in 2012 with Honda and in 2019 with Kawasaki. Unfortunately, he has not had the opportunity to return to this track since his last success. His return would therefore be perceived as a major event by motorcycle enthusiasts.
The 8 Hours of Suzuka have become a must-attend event for Zarco in the past two years. They usually take place in the heart of summer, but the 2026 edition will be held on July 5, during a particularly busy period for MotoGP. Indeed, the races in Brno and Assen will precede this event, followed by a stop at Sachsenring a week later. A true marathon for the riders!
A Vision for the Future
Johann Zarco shows a strong attachment to this iconic race and is already looking ahead. While Fabio Quartararo is expected to join Honda in MotoGP in 2027, Zarco enthusiastically envisions the possibility of sharing a bike with his compatriot during an endurance race: “If we do endurance with Fabio, it could be fun!” An appealing idea that could thrill fans.
Last year, the competition saw the participation of two MotoGP riders, with Jack Miller representing Yamaha after joining the Pramac team. A beautiful illustration of the blend between MotoGP talents and those from the endurance world.
