The 2027 Toyota Highlander makes its market debut with an audacious promise: to become the brand’s first three-row electric SUV. With a reinvented design and cutting-edge technology, it aims to attract families looking for space and environmental respect.
The First Electric Highlander

Toyota Highlander EV 2027
Toyota has decided to double down on its efforts by launching a new version of its Highlander, one of the most popular models for large families. Indeed, this iteration stands out with a bold design and a completely modernized interior. But the real revolution lies under the hood, or rather where there is no longer a combustion engine.
For the first time, the Toyota Highlander becomes electric, becoming a 100% electric model. It is offered in two versions: XLE and Limited, each with its own specifications. The XLE model is available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with two battery options. The Limited, on the other hand, is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive.
The base Highlander XLE is equipped with a 77.0 kWh battery, paired with a single electric motor producing 221 hp, offering a claimed range of 462 km. For those opting for the XLE AWD with the same battery, power increases to 338 hp, but range decreases to 435 km per charge. A delicate choice, like choosing between a good pizza and a tempting dessert.

By opting for the 95.8 kWh battery in the XLE AWD or Limited, the range increases to 515 km, while maintaining the same power of 338 hp. A great yield for an SUV that promises to transport the whole family without too many restrictions.
Both versions are equipped with a NACS connector (North American Charging Standard), and the Highlander EV also introduces V2L (vehicle-to-load) technology, capable of powering external devices, ideal for camping enthusiasts or barbecue nights.

An Electrifying Style

Toyota Highlander EV 2027
At first glance, the new Highlander EV displays a remarkable look for a three-row SUV. Its sleek lines and pronounced fenders give it a dynamic appearance. The LED daytime running lights stretch across the width of the vehicle, while the semi-flush door handles enhance aerodynamics, like a runner trying to reduce drag.
Inside, the technological experience does not disappoint. The Highlander is equipped with a 14.0-inch central screen, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in wireless mode. The 12.3-inch digital dashboard even offers a full-screen navigation option. Passengers can enjoy multiple charging points along the three rows, an optional fixed glass panoramic roof (the largest in the Toyota lineup), and customizable ambient lighting with no less than 64 colors. Enough to turn every trip into a true road trip worthy of a science fiction movie.

SofTex (synthetic leather) seats are present in all three rows. Heated front seats are standard, while front seat ventilation is offered as an option. For those who love comfort, heated seats are also available in the second row.
Toyota has not yet specified all the details about passenger space and trunk volume, but one thing is certain: the third row folds completely flat. This allows for up to 1,274 liters of cargo space behind the second row. Ideal for family trips or weekly grocery runs without stress.
Still So Safe

Safety is a paramount aspect at Toyota, and the Highlander is no exception. It comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0), which includes:
- Collision prevention system with pedestrian detection
- Adaptive radar cruise control across the speed range
- Lane departure alert with steering assistance
- Lane keeping assistance
- Traffic sign recognition
- Proactive driving assistance
Additionally, the Highlander offers the Star Safety System, which includes a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking assistance with automatic braking, as well as a range of features such as a smart key and hill start assist. With all this, one feels as serene as a cat in the sun.
Price and Availability
The 2027 Highlander will be assembled in Georgetown, Kentucky, with batteries supplied by Toyota’s new battery plant in North Carolina. Production is expected to begin in late 2026, with sales anticipated later in the year. However, one mystery remains: the price of the 2027 Highlander EV has not yet been revealed. We can expect this electric SUV to position itself well against the growing competition in the electric SUV segment.
