Peter Hickman Returns to Podium on BMW M 1000 RR at Isle of Man TT

Back on the Isle of Man tarmac after a serious injury, Peter Hickman proved his speed is as sharp as ever. The British rider secured two second-place finishes aboard his BMW M 1000 RR, marking a triumphant return to the legendary road race. This performance confirms the Bavarian machine’s dominance and the incredible resilience of its rider.

Peter Hickman: The King’s Return

The Isle of Man TT, a mythical and dangerous event, once again delivered spectacle and emotion this year. For Peter Hickman, nicknamed “Hicky,” this return was more than just a race; it was confirmation that he was indeed back after an injury that had kept him away from circuits and forced him to miss the previous edition. His goal was clear: regain his rhythm, test his limits, and, above all, prove to himself that he was still a serious contender on this unforgiving course.

A BMW M 1000 RR Up to the Challenge

Supported by the 8TEN Racing team, in partnership with BMW Motorrad Motorsport, Hickman could count on a finely-tuned machine: the BMW M 1000 RR. The team doubled down on preparations for this 2026 edition, despite setbacks, notably the injury to Davey Todd, Hickman’s teammate, who had to trade his helmet for a commentator’s microphone. On the track, the M 1000 RR once again demonstrated its exceptional potential, giving its rider the confidence needed to push relentlessly.

Two Podiums, One Confirmation

From the very first race, the Superbike TT, Peter Hickman displayed an impressive pace. The team’s pit stops were efficient, and the rider managed his race skillfully to secure a solid second place. This result was all the more significant as it marked his return to competition after a long period of inactivity. This first podium set the tone for what was to come, proving that “Hicky” was back in form.

Capricious Weather Conditions

However, the weather, often fickle on the Isle of Man, quickly complicated matters. Fog and rain caused chaos, leading to delays and cancellations. The Superstock races, where BMW bikes are traditionally strong, could not take place. Only the prestigious Senior TT remained on the schedule, but it was interrupted by a serious accident involving BMW rider Erno Kostamo. Ultimately, weather conditions led to the cancellation of the Senior TT restart, with results declared after the first lap. Peter Hickman found himself, once again, on the second step of the podium, behind Dean Harrison.

A Tribute and a Limited Edition

This 2026 edition of the Isle of Man TT was marked by several serious accidents, casting a shadow over the performances. BMW Motorrad Motorsport expressed its condolences to the family of Daniel Ingham, who tragically passed away, and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured. On a more celebratory note, BMW Motorrad took advantage of the event to unveil a limited edition of the M 1000 RR, named the “Isle of Man TT.” Limited to 115 units, this special series pays tribute to the race’s 115 years and is distinguished by exclusive design elements and collector’s equipment.
