Audi‘s Shakedown at Circuit de Catalunya

Audi has officially kicked off its Formula 1 campaign for 2026 with a shakedown of their new R26 car at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, Spain. This marks the first time a contemporary F1 car equipped with the latest generation engine has hit the track.

Drivers Behind the Wheel

During the filming session, Audi’s works drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, put the R26 through its paces. Fans were treated to the exhilarating sound of the new engine as it roared around the circuit for the first time.

Significant Engine Changes for 2026

The FIA has introduced critical changes to the F1 engine regulations for the upcoming season. While retaining the 1.6-liter V6 turbo hybrid format, the internal combustion engine’s output has been reduced significantly. In contrast, the output of the electric motor has been tripled, resulting in a balanced 50-50 power split between the two sources.

Enhanced Energy Recovery System

One notable change is the elimination of the complex MGU-H system. The new Energy Recovery System (ERS) will enable the battery to recharge with double the energy per lap, enhancing overall performance on the track.

Upcoming Unveilings and Tests

Audi will unveil their R26 Formula 1 car in Berlin on January 20, just ahead of the first pre-season test scheduled for January 26-30. As we anticipate this reveal, fans are eager to see how Audi will integrate these innovations into their racing strategy.
