First Look at the 2026 F1 Engine Sounds

Last week, we were treated to the roaring debut of the 2026 Audi Formula 1 car during filming at the Circuit de Barcelona in Spain. Meanwhile, Cadillac has also made waves by testing their new F1 race car at Silverstone in the UK.

Cadillac’s Engine Choice

In a surprising twist, Cadillac will be utilizing a Ferrari engine this season. This recent testing offered us our first listen to Ferrari’s new engine designed under the 2026 regulations. Unlike the futuristic sounds from the Audi R26, Cadillac’s vehicle presents a more traditional engine note.

New Regulations and Their Impact

The excitement surrounding the new F1 cars is palpable, primarily due to significant regulatory changes impacting both engine design and aerodynamics. While the 1.6-liter V6 turbo hybrid remains intact, there has been a reduction in the output of the internal combustion engine. Conversely, the electric motor’s output has tripled, resulting in a balanced power split of 50-50.

Changes to Energy Recovery Systems

The complex MGU-H has been eliminated in these new regulations. Instead, the Energy Recovery System (ERS) has been revamped, now capable of recharging the battery with double the energy per lap compared to previous iterations.
